Air quality mindfulness

Getting outside or opening all the windows to get a good dose of fresh air to clear the mind and have a breather maybe exactly what your body needs if you’re feeling lethargic, depressed or anxious.  The reality is, is that it is possible that your air quality is full of positive ions or electromagnetic pollution, which can cause you to feel depressed, anxious, stressed or moody.

Areas like the home or office can have a significant amount of positive ions due to many interior elements that produce this toxin.

Elements such as:

  • Phones
  • Computers
  • Televisions
  • Carpet
  • Fluorescent lighting and
  • Paint

are some of the key producers of positive ions.

It maybe an added reason why people feel quite unwell when they have been cooped up in the office all day.

Positive ions can easily be absorbed through your skin and of course through breathing.

They are small molecules that exist more than ever due to the rise of technology and the industrial world.

Ways to reduce its impact on your health include going where they don’t exist, such as beaches, waterfalls, thick forests and places where pollen, mold and toxic chemicals are not present.

Of course for many, being in these areas regularly is not always possible.

Especially when the office is the primary location to earn an income.

If you are regularly in positive ion areas, then you will need to find ways to boost negative ions.

Negative ions are found in nature particularly in areas as mentioned before, such as beaches, waterfalls etc., which is why we can feel uplifted and refreshed in these areas.

Negative ions are found to be healing for our health. A study by the late Dr Igho Hart Kornblueh confirmed that negative ions had a pain-relieving impact. It is also known to have an anti-depressant effect.

Live plants, such as peace lilies, can be placed around the home or office as they are found to remove toxins and produce negative ions.

You could also install a water fountain or an ioniser, which produces negative ions.

For instance, there are instruments you can buy that are ‘all in one’ for improving your air quality. They are used as a humidifier, purifier and ioniser.

They are excellent devices as you can put a few drops of pure essential oil in them, which vaporisers into the air and has an added effect with treating ailments.

For instance, if you have a cold, you could put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in it, which will kill any airborne germs and soothe digestion.

Alternatively, you could put in a few drops of lavender oil to calm your mind and help you sleep, which makes a perfect combination with the ioniser producing negative ions to purify the air and help you relax.

The humidifier also puts moisture into the air which is very rejuvenating for your skin and body.

Taking care and ensuring that the quality of the air you are in is healthy can make a huge difference to the way you feel and think and support your ability to relax.

It may even resolve health issues that appear to linger such as allergies or headaches.

In addition, imagine the benefits it could have in a workplace where there are many people working together in an office.

It may improve work productivity and the relationship between colleagues.

Even just getting employees to take a walk outside may help with reducing the impact of positive ions.
